In Dick Barrymore's documentary about vagabond skiers, Mike Zuetell, a former mathematics student, crosses paths with Ron Funk, a longtime adventurer, and forms a friendship. They are soon joined by a young ex-soldier, Ed Ricks, and the three start traveling together. Zuetell uses his math background to win money in Monte Carlo, allowing the trio to visit great slopes across Europe. They meet Jean-Claude Killy and mountain-climber Gaston Rebuffat, who impart words of wisdom to the ski bums.
